Dietary Treatment For Digestive Disorders and Optimum Health For Women

Digestive Disorders

The Digestive System

Our food digestion system (mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine) helps us to obtain energy and nutrients from food. Carbohydrate, fats and protein are each digested differently within the gastrointestinal tract, but surplus calories from these three nutrients are ALL converted to body fat. Malabsorption, bad eating habits, infections and food toxins can cause digestive disorders including: Indigestion, Dyspepsia, Constipation, Diarrhea, Gastroenteritis, and other digestion problems, or even food poisoning.

Lactose Intolerance

This digestive problem is caused by a lack of the digestive enzyme lactase. There is no “special treatment” for lactase deficiency. The only way to control symptoms is by dietary means. Lactase supplements are available to help boost lactase levels, although these are typically beneficial for only some individuals. Like other food intolerances, lactose intolerance can appear suddenly during mid-life, after the menopause.
