Haiti Progress – October 2012

At long last We are eager to share with you that the classroom building of phase 1 of Ecole Baptiste Bon Berger, Pele, Haiti is substantially complete. The school site is located in Simon Pele, on the outskirts Citi Soleil in Haiti, which has bad reputation for violence and high concentration of underpriviledged children. This project location was a challlenge however, we’ve defeated the odds. (see below)

Haiti Meet n Greet – Friday, October 26, 5:30 – 7:30

This months meet & greet will be led by our former Structural Engineer, Rick Ehlert. His passion for rebuilding a safe Haiti comes from his resolve that the devastation of January 12, 2010 should never again be repeated in Haiti. Rick’s 32 years of structural engineering experience combine with his past humanitarian and volunteer efforts to be a positive force in Haiti’s reconstruction efforts. He utilizes his vast knowledge of seismic engineering, search and rescue disaster response, and structural behavior to help Haitian engineers improve their skills. Rick, with his wife Teresa, has relocated to New Zealand where he is helping with the rehabilitation efforts in Christchurch following the recent devastating earthquakes. We look forward to learning how his experiences here in haiti compare with what he is finding in New Zealand.
