The gimmick varies. Either, the diet advises eating only one type of food; or a weird combination of foods; or eating at a certain time of the day; or requires the use of a particular supplement to be added to your diet.
A fad diet sounds attractive because it makes weight loss sound easy. However, not only are most fad diets downright unhealthy, but they are typically very low in calories.
So if you do lose weight, it’s not because of the gimmick, it’s because you have reduced your calorie-intake significantly.
All in all, fad diets are a waste of effort and rarely lead to lasting weight loss.
