Hmm, calorie needs depend on many things, including genetics, age, sex, body fat percentage, activity level and type of food eaten. But here’s a very approximate method to calculate your calorie needs.

How To Calculate Your Calorie Needs

Very Light Exercise
Multiply your weight in pounds by 12

Light Exercise
Multiply your weight in pounds by 13

Moderate Exercise

Moderate-Heavy Exercise
Multiply your weight in pounds by 15

Heavy Exercise

Example

Alice weighs 140 pounds. She is very physically active.
Her calorie needs are 140 x 16 = 2240 calories/day

Note: All values are approximate. For a more precise definition of calorie needs, please consult the Harris Benedict Equation, which gives you a more exact Basal Energy Expenditure Level. To read more about the Harris-Benedict Formula, click: Calorie Needs for Women
